Nice Work is thrilled to announce that they have partnered with SkootEco.
We recognise that our runners care deeply about the environment, and we are excited to offer them the opportunity to make a positive impact. This wonderful new initiative allows our runners the option of paying just £1 at the point of booking to help offset their carbon footprint on race day. Going forward, you'll see this option when you book your next Nice Work race.
But, we're getting ahead of ourselves. Let us tell you more!
Let's start at the beginning...
Who are SkootEco?
SkootEco launched in 2020 with the belief that, when it comes to climate change, small actions can lead to big changes.
Their vision is a world where everyone actively and consciously takes responsibility for their impact on Earth. In this future, sustainability is not merely a trend, but a fundamental aspect of daily life where each action taken contributes to the collective effort of preserving our planet for future generations and reducing our carbon footprint. This was how they would save the world. We wanted to be a part of this vision. We want to deliver fantastic races and save the world!
But, you know all about us already. We're old friends, afterall. Let's get back to SkootEco... Fast forward to 2024 and their hard work, optimism and carefully crafted eco-friendly strategy is doing exactly that; changing the world may not be such a naive and unattainable goal afterall. Not only is SkootEco an award winning, certified B corporation initiative but, to date, they have planted over 1,424,478 trees in deforested and damaged ecosystems across the plant. They have removed more than 180,455 plastic bottles from vulnerable waterways and coastlines around the world. They have reduced carbon emissions by 67,264.00 tonnes through a combination of tree sequestration and climate reduction projects and they have helped to fund global humanitarian projects in support of the Sustainable Development Goals.
How do they do this?
Quite simply, through education, empowerment and innovative solutions SkootEco enables organisations to foster an attitude of environmental stewardship, reducing their carbon footprint and delivering revenue to fund wider ESG (Environmental and Social Governance) initiatives. They provide a simple platform from which businesses, like Nice Work, can achieve this and help work towards the shared value of sustainability.
How does this affect our runners...
SkootEco believes that a staggering 90% of CO2 emissions at running events come from the runners themselves with the organiser impacting only 10% of the associated carbon footprint. And so, they place focus on empowering the runner to reduce their race-day carbon footprint by offsetting it through a small £1 donation at the point of booking. Hence, the new option to donate £1 to their new initiatives on our booking flow!
Where does your £1 donation go?
This small, but mighty donation goes towards:
- Planting certified trees around the world through registered NGOs. These planting initiatives provide much needed employment to vulnerable communities and forests are planted in perpetuity.
- Partnering with plastic recovery schemes that enable locals to collect plastic bottles from vulnerable waterways and coastlines in exchange for income and life-improving benefits.
- Funding carbon reduction projects around the globe.
Can you book an entry without making a donation?
Of course! This is a choice that is entirely yours. However, we hope all our runners will see benefit of helping to build a better future for generations to come and join us in making this dream a reality.
Why is the donation amount only £1...?
In today's world, we know that living costs are high and that every penny counts. But, as SkootEco has reminds us... small actions lead to big changes. And, whilst a £1 donation on its own may not make much of an impact, it can be an incredible force for good when combined with many more little actions of the same size! We hope that this small contribution will help make a big difference, without breaking the bank. We know that some of you may want to donate more; we're working on a way to help give you the option to do this so watch this space!
