The start & finish
The 10k & 5k start and finish in the same location and this is close to the Race HQ on the village green.
About the course
The race uses a multi-terrain 5k route along quiet lanes in and around the village. The route is on the public highway and runners should be aware of the possibility of traffic.
Advertised as a multi-terrain race, this is because a short section of each lap is off-road and on a trail. This section - about 800m - is made up of farm track with a hardcore base for about half the distance and the rest is a bridleway with mud surface which should be firm to hard. It it has rained a lot then it can get slippery and there may be exposed roots. We scrape this section each year to make it as even as possible and apply grit where necessary. However, the vast majority of the route is on flat-ish, tarmac country lanes and the race has the look and feel of a road race.
Other route users
Please be aware that you are sharing the paths with other walkers, runners and cyclists, many of whom live locally. We ask that you race with care and remain courteous at all times.
Recommended Kit & Footwear
Your favourite running shoes should be fine for this race. Please keep an eye on the forecast and dress appropriately for the conditions, bringing a spare set of clothes (and socks!) if needed.
Litter
Please do NOT drop litter. Bins will be provided, so please dispose of any litter correctly or take it home with you.
Water Stations
As well as a water station at the end of the race, there will be an additional water station for the 10k runners.
Whilst we will ensure that our water stations are well supplied, runners should ensure that they are fully hydrated and also consider carrying their own water.
Going Green
To help reduce the carbon footprint of this race, we would like to encourage all our runners to bring their own camel packs or reusable cups for this race. Our teams at the water stations will be happy to fill any receptacle that you might bring with you so that you stay hydrated and racing fit! If you are able to car share, then this would be wonderful!
Your route & marshals...
Your course will be clearly marked using large route arrows and directional cones, as well as being marshalled throughout. Please listen and obey all marshal instructions given. There will be a sweep marshal which will follow the last runner to make sure that no one is left on the route. All marshals will remain in place until stood down by the sweep marshal.
Spectators
We always welcome anyone that would like to cheer on our runners and join the good spirit of the race by lending their encouragement and support.
The Kids Colour races are £5 and include a bag of paint powder. Additional paint will be available to buy at £1 per bag, on the day. The colour run will start at 10:55, giving most of the 10k parents a chance to finish their race before popping over to see their little humans enjoy some messy race day fun!
Colour Runners are set off in two groups according to age...
Kids aged 4 - 7 are invited to complete one lap around the green and through the colour run area whilst kids aged 7 - 11 are invited to complete two laps.
Please note, if you are driving, then you will need to arrive and park by 09:00 as, after this time, roads will be closing to traffic.
We encourage you to cheer your young racers at the top of your lungs!
