Garden Visits

Looking for a great day out for your members?

Worried about having enough members to fill a coach?

Why not join members of other Associations and Societies for one of our day trips to fine English Gardens? We've selected three great Garden Visits for our day trips from Sussex and Kent - each one chosen carefully because of its unique character.

Our first visit of the year is in April when we visit Wisley for the famous annual Wisley Daffodil Show. The Royal Horticultural Society Garden, Wisley is acclaimed by gardeners throughout the world. But you don't have to be a keen gardener to appreciate the beauty of Wisley - whatever the season, the garden is a unique and enchanting place that people return to time and time again.

Covering more than 240 acres, Wisley is one of the world's biggest gardens, demonstrating more gardening techniques and styles than any encyclopedia could ever hope to cover. The gardens at Wisley offer ideas on design, innovation and cultivation techniques - and features every type of garden from rock gardens to heather gardens to formal herbaceous borders. In addition to the lovely water features and woodland walks, on each of our day trips from Sussex and Kent you'll have time to visit the cafe and restaurant.

Borde Hill is a stunningly beautiful and botanically rich heritage garden set in more than 150 acres of parkland. It captivates and delights visitors throughout each season of the year with a series of intimate 'living garden rooms', fine woodland, parkland, lakes and outstanding views across the magnificent Sussex High Weald.

At the heart of the garden, Borde Hill House, a Tudor mansion dating from 1580, provides a superb backdrop to the formal 17-acre Garden which flows into a series of linked 'garden rooms', each boasts its own distinctive character and style. In June the Rose Festival attracts many visitors and on one special weekend, the Gardens also feature the best of food and wine. This makes our day trips from Sussex and Kent to the Wine and Rose Weekend a great day out for gardeners and foodies alike!

And so to our final trip of the year. Perhaps one of the country's most stunning castles, Hever Castle was once home to Anne Boleyn and boasts superb gardens, which include a maze. Be inspired to come and visit this thirteenth century romantic castle - once the childhood home of Anne Boleyn. Set in magnificent gardens from the majestic formal Italian Garden and topiary, to the informal meanderings of the lakeside and Sunday Walk. The Water Maze on Sixteen Acre Island and the Yew Maze challenges both adults and children alike!

In October, Hever hosts its Autumn Colour Week when Castle gardeners will show visitors around the gardens and discuss autumn gardening topics. The stunning bronzes, reds and yellows around the gardens, especially those reflecting in the lake and outer moat make this time of year very special at Hever Castle.
